Ambient Play - An Interactive Sound Mural
Beautiful illustrations and an enticing soundscape make this playful installation memorable
Large scale sensors, coatings, an interactive sound mural, wallpaper or prints – there are many great things you can create with 1L of Electric Paint.
Ambient Play is a great example of how you can create an engaging experience with Electric Paint. It was created by Tampa-based design firm, the Urban Conga and two muralists Sebastian Coolidge and Justin Wagher.
The installation is an interactive artwork that triggers sounds when touched, so the community can interact and engage with one another through music and art.
Watch the short video below to see the piece in action and learn more about the process of building the installation.

Sebastian and Justin designed these murals using Electric Paint and the Touch Board . They drew out the imagery by hand and integrated Electric Paint into the visual language. The Electric Paint then connected to the Touch Board to trigger sound through a speaker system. Different parts of the interactive wall produced different sounds. Sebastian described the project as a surreal and multi-dimensional concept, where people had the ability to see and experience what they haven’t seen before. Justin also incorporated traditional Japanese illustration into his mural, while keeping it simple and letting the audience interact with it in their own way.
The goal of Ambient Play was to create social interaction through art. Visitors to the exhibition could meet other participants and interact with one another through the sounds of the artwork.
